Boat Quay is a historical quay in Singapore and also the trailblazer of the Singapore entertainment scene. Situated upstream from the mouth of the Singapore River, it used to be the busiest port of Singapore during the 1860s.
Though Boat Quay no longer serving its primary role as an aquatic trade, the shophouses are still being conserved and now houses various bars, pubs and restaurants. With the change in Boat Quay's social-economic role in the city from trade and maritime commerce, now emerging towards the tourism zone which encloses the Singapore River.
Being located in the central business district area, banking and financial sectors lies immediately behind it.
