Geylang is a neighbourhood of Singapore located on the Eastern side of the island state. The neighbourhood is more or less not affected by urban projects and developments.
In the past, Geylang used to be a Malay settlement with coconut plantations, commonly known as "Geylang Kelapa" (kelapa means coconut in Malay). However, in the beginning of the 20th century, it has changed to Geylang Serai (serai means lemon grass in Malay).

Today, Geylang has a combination of shophouse scenery and a busy night life. The (legal) red-light district, foreign workers' quarters and karaoke lounges (KTV) offers an alternative view of modern Singapore which cannot be found elsewhere on the island.
There are a lot of restaurants and eating places that can be found in Geylang. In order for you to reach Geylang Road, there are several MRT stations which you may drop down from (From Kallang to Aljunied and Paya Lebar). Geylang Lorong 1 Bus Terminal situated in the Kallang planning
area also provides another mode of cheap public transportation around the island.
