With rising traffic and increasing congestions in Singapore’s first 2 civillian airports, Singapore Changi Airport finally opened in 1981 in order to tackle these problems.

Today, Changi Airport covers about 13 square kilometres and handled about 37,700,000 in 2008, making it one of the busiest airports in the world.

Since its opening in 1981, Changi Airport had won numerous awards — 280 awards in 1987 to 2007 , winning 19 Best Airport awards in 2007 alone; serving as a benchmark for service excellence in the aviation industry.
