Pulau Ubin which means “Granite Island”, is an island northeast of Singapore. The island was thus named due to the presence of granite there. Granite was once quarried for the use of local constructions since the British colonial period. However, none of the quarries are in operation today.

Today, Pulau Ubin is one of the few rural areas left in Singapore, with only a few hundred villagers still staying on the island. The island is also used for camps and activities by Singaporeans.

Cycling is a popular activity when at to Pulau Ubin. One can choose to cycle along the paved roads, which are often shaded by the trees or choose the dirt tracks. The natural vegetation is is worth viewing while cycling or even walking.

Alternatively, head down to the north-eastern tip of Pulau Ubin if you are a nature lover. Go around Chek Jawa and discover that it is rich with marine life.

Found only by chance through a nature outing, it is virtually unknown before 2000. Chek Jawa is located at the eastern part of Pulau Ubin, an island north-east of Singapore, it is divided into 6 distinct habitats - coastal forest, mangroves, sand bars, seagrass lagoon, rocky shore & coral rubble.

One can find starfish, sea horses and octopi residing in the sand flats, marine flatworms and peacock anemones amongst the sea-grass, and sponge of all shapes and colours living in the coral rubble.

Admission
Free, but you need to spend SGD 2.50 (USD 1.61) to take a bumboat to Pulau Ubin, the bumboat will leave when there are 12 persons.

Bike rentals are usually about SGD 2 (USD 1.29) and can be found once you get on shore.

  2. hey cool blog very helpfull stuff there are loads of guys who play horse jumping games all the time. They enjoy plaing with their friends trying to enjoy the hours of free time that is available throughout the day. Horses are very popular amongst girls who love to learn to ride them at a young age, Horse Games allow young girls not yet old enough to fully enjoy riding horses a chance to play with these animals.
