Safety

Social stability remains calm and stable in Singapore. There are hardly any targeted crimes against tourists. Racial or religious hatred and taken very seriously and persecuted.

Throughout the night, it is considered safe to be in outdoors, although personal precautions needs to be taken. This includes avoiding isolated places and being in well-lit public places as well as travelling in a group.

Smoking

Smoking is prohibited in the following places:

  • At all public indoor areas regardless of whether it is air-conditioned
  • Children playgrounds
  • Offices
  • Hawker Centres/ Coffee Shops
  • Restaurants
  • Lift Lobbies
  • Multi-storey and underground carparks
  • Exercise areas
  • Nightlife entertainment outlets including karaoke bars, pubs, discos

Some establishment with outdoor areas including coffee shops may have a small area for smokers which will be indicated clearly. Pubs and other nightlife spots may have approved smoking areas.

Spitting

Spitting is prohibited at all public places.

Chewing Gum

Chewing gums outside the use of  therapeutic and medical purposes are banned in Singapore.

Gambling

The only forms of gambling that are legal in Singapore are Charity draws, Toto and Singapore Sweep lottories, on-course betting in the Singapore Turf Club on the race horses.
