Singapore is truly a paradise for sun lovers! Lying just one degree north of the equator, she experiences no distinctive seasons. The temperature usually ranges from 23 - 34 degrees Celsius. This makes it ideal for people who enjoys water sports and of course beaches. There are rainfall throughout the years, more consistently during the monsoon periods. Rain usually arrive in torrential downpours but they rarely last whole day. |
The wettest months of Singapore are November to January. If you intend to spend much time outdoor, it is advisable to avoid these wet months.
Humidity is high in Singapore. A typical day will have relative humidity usually ranging from about 90% in the morning and 60% in the late afternoon. It is not uncommon to have a 100% relative humidity during prolonged rain.
Tourists sometimes joked that there are 2 different seasons in Singapore. While one may expect to hear them say rain and shine, their answer would be indoors and outdoors. Much of Singapore’s indoors are air-conditioned. For tourists who do not enjoy the tropical climate, they will be well protected from the worst effects of the sun.
Other considerations when coming to Singapore are the festive periods.
Tourists can consider visiting Singapore during the Hindu festival of Thaipusam usually during January and February. A procession of Hindus can be seen parading with the main attraction being the men carrying the vel kavadi burdens, which are semi-circular canopy with needles piercing through the men’s skin.
The period usually 1 month before the Lunar New Year(falls in either January or February) are usually very festive, however goods tend to be pricey during these periods. Also, most Chinese shops are closed during the first 2-3 days of Lunar New Year, the resulting quietness is in a stark contrast to the noisy preparation period. These factors can be taken into considerations.
